Written and directed by award-winning British-Indian filmmaker Sandhya Suri, Santosh stars Shahana Goswami (A Suitable Boy, Rock On!!, Midnight’s Children) and Sunita Rajwar (Gullak, Kedarnath). The story follows newly widowed Santosh, who inherits her late husband’s job as a police constable in the rural badlands of Northern India. However, when a low-caste girl is murdered, Santosh finds herself drawn into the investigation by the determined and charismatic Inspector Sharma.
The film made waves during festival season, and was nominated at Cannes Film Festival 2024 in the Un Certain Regard category and the Sutherland Award for Best Film Feature at BFI London Film Festival. It was also the UK’s official submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the Academy Awards: the film is not one to be missed when it hits UK cinemas on the 21st of March, 2025.
