Matty Juniosa took to the stage of Britain’s Got Talent, introducing himself as a 27 year old Filipino who has been living in Glasgow, United Kingdom for the past three years. He said he is currently working part-time job as a waiter.

Juniosa explained that he entered the competition to challenge his own self-doubt, saying he wanted to move beyond the belief that he would always be a “singing competition loser”. He previously competed on Idol Philippines in 2019.

“I have been waiting for this chance to finally put an end to this long-standing thought that I will always be a singing competition loser”, he said. For his audition, Juniosa performed a rendition of “Purple Rain” by Prince, and it attracts a strong response from both judges and audiences.

The performance received a standing ovation, with judge Simon Cowell describing it as one of the biggest reactions seen on the programme. Cowell pressed the Golden Buzzer, sending Juniosa directly through the live shows and allowing him to bypass the remaining audition stages.

After the broadcast, Cowell shared the performance online and praised the singer, commenting that he “could have given him two Golden Buzzers.” Juniosa later said on social media that he remains in disbelief at the opportunity, describing it as a significant milestone particularly as someone who grew up watching the show.

Previously, Filipino-American Jessica Sanchez received a Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent on 15 July 2025. She performed “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone, earning praise from the judges for her “angelic voice” and “wonderful performance” with Sofia Vergara pressed the Golden Buzzer.
