Suleiman Ahmed Zaid Obeid, known to many as a forward and winger with 19 caps for the Palestinian men’s national football team, died on the 6th August 2025 while waiting to collect humanitarian aid in Gaza.
Born in Gaza on the 24th of March, 1984, Obeid played for Khadamat Al‑Shatea before going on to don the colours of Markaz Shabab Al‑Amari and Gaza Sport. Internationally, after his debut in 2007, he scored two goals for his country: the first against Yemen in the 2010 West Asian Football Federation Championship, then in a 2011 friendly in Indonesia.
“Suleiman Al-Obaid, a former Palestine national team player, was killed in an Israeli strike targeting civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in southern Gaza,” the Palestine Football Association (PFA) said in a statement.
“During his long career, Al-Obeid scored more than 100 goals, making him one of the brightest stars of Palestinian football,” they added.
