Sitting Down with Charisse Beaumont, Chief Executive of Black Lives in Music, About The REMEL Report

The REMEL Report highlights racial disparities in London's live music scene: we chat to Charisse Beaumont, the Chief Executive of Black Lives in Music, to learn more.

The recently released REMEL Report examines racial inequalities in the licensing and policing of London’s live music events, documenting barriers faced by Black and South Asian artists, promoters and venues, and recommending reforms.

The project began in July 2023, following a joint letter from Black Lives in Music and the Musicians’ Union to London Mayor Sadiq Khan, calling for action on racial inequalities in live-music licensing and policing.

The concern was that Black and South Asian artists, promoters and venue owners faced disproportionate cancellations, licence refusals and police interventions among other indicators of discrimination.

We chat to Charisse Beaumont, the Chief Executive of Black Lives in Music, to talk further about the results of the report, and what the public needs to know.
