Decades of nerd culture is being celebrated with one film to rule them all. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, directed by anime film legend Kenji Kamiyama, is a collaboration between the beloved franchise and an animation style not seen before in the story’s adaptations. Fans can watch blazing fires and battle scenes in a vibrant animation that does justice to the epic tale, set 200 years before the events of Peter Jackson’s trilogy.

Brian Cox stars as Helm Hammerhand, Gaia Wise as princess Héra and Luke Pasqualino as Wulf. Fans online are buzzing with anticipation over an implied deeper glimpse into the fascinating lore of Helm, as well as curiosity over the importance of his daughter Héra, who was not named in Tolkien’s original works.

The official trailer certainly teases gripping additions to Peter Jackson’s canon adaptation, with a focus on new characters, a brilliant fight to come, and no shortage of connections to the main story: something which will surely be a delight to fans.
