Wave The Earth, a South Korean rock bad, have been creating good vibes and timeless sounding songs since 2019. Comprised of vocalist and guitarist Daniel, drummer Donggyu, and bassist Soonjong, they have just made waves in North America, and are set to light up this side of the Atlantic very soon.
You must be so excited to come to the UK after a sell out North American leg of your tour. What are you most excited to show UK fans?
It’s our second time in Europe! We already had so many great experiences back in 2024: it was the first time being in Europe to see our fans and see the city views. So this time we’re particularly excited to kind of perform our new album there and we’re in big venues this time. So we’re just looking forward to see our fans again.
Do you have any specific songs then that you’re excited to perform to UK fans?
I think, “Annie”, because it’s our first explicit song! [Laughs]
I’m sure UK fans will really appreciate it! You’ve got this lovely, classic escapist sound that just makes you feel like you’re in another world. Can I ask what goes into creating your sound, and how long did it take you to forge your sonic identity as a band?
Tthe band members themselves have their own skills. So kind of combining that… each person’s skills in one. That already influences [things]. It’s really just a pure joy doing that process.
Daniel and Dongkyu, you’ve known each other since your were both so young. How have you both managed to keep up your partnership as musicians whilst having grown and changed so much as people and how did you know that Soonjong was the perfect fit for the band?
[When] making the first EP album with 0.01, we needed a bassist in our sound. [So] finding a great match with Dongkyu because Dongkyu has a unique sound… unique characteristics! That’s why Jong came into sight; after we had a rehearsal together there was a electric feel after that! From then, we just had to be together.
It was fate!
