1. Minnesota is woven through her brand new album Good, Like It Should Be
Ber may be bringing her music to audiences far from her home of Minnesota, but it still remains at the heart of her newest album. Songs such as “Hey, Bluebird” and “Forget Me Not” carrying memories of lakes, cabins, Wisconsin and her grandmother. Giving the album a spin is not just a record of Ber’s own experiences, but also a snapshot of her little corner of home.
2. The album grew organically, borne from sincere conversations
The poetic lyricism on Good, Like It Should Be was not a pre-planned vision. The songs grew naturally from conversations with trusted collaborators, where a notable image or phrase would emerge, with the song building upon it. “Hey, Bluebird”, for example, turned into a song reflecting on her own experiences instead of an external relationship.
3. It’s an evolution from her earlier EP Room For You
Despite the amount of growth she’s been through between her album and her previous work, Ber still has enormous empathy for the younger woman behind those songs. However, while that earlier work examined the self through the difficulties around heartbreak and relationships, her new album casts a wider net, exploring her identity through how she relates to home, her memories, and how far she’s come since.
4. She’s learned to appreciate the highs and the lows
Ber’s been through many ups and downs in her young career: she’s signed record deals, left them and played to many different crowds from all over. For her, one day may mean performing to thousands in London, while the next could mean an intimate room in a little town somewhere. Both are important parts of the same journey that has been crucial to who she has become today.
5. Her own favourite artist are a mixture of home and away
Ber has a deep love for Minnesota’s own music community, with her giving shout-outs to Landon Conrath, Hippo Campus and many more. Beyond home, her tastes include a deeply appreciated ABBA resurgence, Clairo, Olivia Dean and Remi Wolf. We’re sure she herself is on many a listener’s top favourites right now!
