Dazzling Liverpool punk trio Yee Loi have released their third single, ‘Social Suicide’: formed by siblings Rose, Matilda and Don Don, the band use their punchiest track yet to confront an industry increasingly driven by views, likes and online visibility. Inspired by Motörhead and Social Distortion, the single rejects insincere pop polish for raw rock-punk energy.
“The more we get involved in music, the more we realise that for many people, musical ability just isn’t enough,” Rose said. “It just seems that people are prepared to sell their souls for views, likes and follows. We just want to make great punk rock and roll songs that move people.”
‘Social Suicide’ reflects Yee Loi’s commitment to musicianship, rejecting the use of AI, backing tracks or Auto-Tune.
The release follows the trio’s appearance at the Ramones’ 50th anniversary celebration in Hollywood, where they joined high-profile guests including Billie Joe Armstrong, Travis Barker and Billy Idol. The band’s connection to the Ramones goes way back: Yee Loi first gained attention by sharing covers of the band and have since travelled to the US to write and compose with CJ Ramone himself.
With their star steadily rising, their previous single, ‘Down In The Bunker’, featured on tracks-of-the-week lists from Kerrang!, MTV and Northern Exposure. Yee Loi have also supported Adam Ant, earning praise for their fiercely energetic live performances.
Rounding out a breakout year, the trio will head out on tour with Transvision Vamp in October. The 15-date UK tour opens at Newcastle’s O2 City Hall on 6 October and visits Glasgow, Leeds, Cambridge, Leicester, Liverpool, Oxford, Cardiff, Manchester, Bournemouth, London, Norwich, Brighton and Birmingham.
