Filipina singer Gehlee Dangca, a former member of K-Pop girl group UNIS, came home to the Philippines on 29 September to begin a new chapter as a solo artist.
Gehlee plans to to look for work in the Philippines and abroad. She will also go back to school. Fans can expect to see more of her Philippine media and entertainment through appearances, projects and other activities.
“After spending the past three years in South Korea building her career and performing on the global K-pop stage, Gehlee’s return to the Philippines marks a special moment for both the young artist and her supporters,” a press release said. “Fans who came to the airport greeted her with banners, cheers, and messages of support, giving Gehlee a warm welcome as she begins a new chapter closer to home.“
The 19 year old will stay with her record label, Universal Records Philippines, GLXY Talent Management and Star Horizon TV Production will manager her in the Philippines. Gehlee told ABS-CBN News she hoped people would not see her return as a lost chance.
“I just wish the people wouldn’t see me coming home to the Philippines as a losing opportunity,” she said.
She said the Philippines was still her home, and that seeing her family, friends and hometown again was part of her choice. “Home ko rin ang Pinas. I am here to be connected to the people, to my hometown, and my family, my friends to catch up with them. And also my priority is to study rin po.” (“The Philippines is also home to me. Gehlee also told fans she would stay active after leaving UNIS. “I will not disappear ever, so please don’t worry about it. And my bond with my sisters will always be so strong.”
Gehlee also hope to work with rising global girl group BINI, as she told PUSH in an exclusive interview. She calls the members her “Ates” or “older sisters”, and said she would “explode” if they ever got to collaborate.
She also had a message for the group. “Hello po mga Ate. I think you are so cool po. I love you and I idolize you before I even debut in UNIS.“
Gehlee Gimena Dangca was born on 19 August 2007. She studied at San Beda College Alaban and St. Paul College Pasig in the Philippines.
She was already signed to Universal Records Philippines before her K-Pop debut. She was one of the Filipino talents scouted for the SBS show Universe Ticket. She won a place in the contest and went on to debut with UNIS.
She was the fourth trainee named among eight members chosen for the group, which debuted in March 2024. On Universe Ticket, she was called the “Princess of the Universe” because of graceful manner.
