K-Pop veteran six-piece Monsta X are on the move. The singers, who’ve always had a steady and respectable place in the industry, kicked off 2026 with a tour announcement, as well as a sonic surprise for adoring fans. “growing pains” is a simple and sweet number, paired with an easygoing self-filmed music video: clearly a release that is primarily for Monbebes (Monsta X’s fans) to enjoy. The lyrics are full of introspections, of which our favourite is Shownu’s: ‘One day I’ll understand that I’m good as I am / I’m finding my way, dealing with these growing pains’.
Full English releases are nothing new to the Korean nationals. In particular, “WHO DO U LOVE? (feat. French Montana)” and “MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT” from 2020 record ALL ABOUT LUV are exquisitely good songs that demonstrate their global appeal. While their more K-Poppy side has still produced some timeless gems (“Miss You”, “DRAMARAMA”, “Jealousy”, “SHINE FOREVER”; the list could go on and on…), tapping into the Western market has allowed them to shed any constraints and colour their discography with a smoother side. In the Korean releases we typically see more emotion and intensity; English songs give the boys’ voices a mellifluous touch.

“growing pains” is different from what we’ve seen before. As an Ed Sheeran-esque acoustic anthem, the composition is light yet powerful, and gives glory to the wonderfully harmonising voices of the group. Emotion flows through every breath and crack.
The X : Nexus World Tour, which began in Seoul at the end of last month, will continue in Asia on 7 March, before travelling to Latin America in June. Lead rapper I.M, the youngest of the group, will be absent for the tour as he completes his mandatory military service.
