US-based Indonesian girl group no na kicked off 2026 with a bang(er) with “work,” which came out on 23rd January. The song is melodic, memorable, and lightning-fast, deliciously fusing Y2K hip-hop and dance-pop with native Southeast Asian instruments, most prominently the ceng-ceng (Balinese hand cymbals) played by no na member Christy Gardena in the music video.
But it’s not just the music that’s grabbing people’s attention. Christy’s dance move at the beginning of the song, in which she bends her back and flips herself over, has gone viral. It’s become a dance challenge, with tens of thousands of people across the globe trying to copy the move.

On 25th January, American content creator @its.raffy posted a video of himself attempting the move. A bone-crunching sound effect is added, later showing him being sent to the hospital. The funny edit currently has more than 323,000 Likes on Instagram.
Japanese creator Corin (@coricori__006) impressed over 72,100 viewers (as of writing) on TikTok when she did the move on an asphalt road seemingly with ease. On 10th February, Mexican creator Dann Flores (@dann.flores10) also achieved the move. Her attempt has more than 276,600 Likes on the app.
Over a month after the song’s release, the dance challenge is still going strong. Just this week, the employees of the restaurant Las Gaviotas Cevichería in Lima, Peru even performed “work” in their kitchen, complete with lettuce props in place of the ceng-ceng. As of writing, the video has more than 2.2 million Likes on Instagram.
no na means “young lady” in Bahasa Indonesia. The group consists of Baila Fauri, Christy Gardena, Esther Geraldine, and Shazfa “Shaz” Adesya, who are currently 22 to 25. Although they moved to Los Angeles in the US to pursue their girl group dreams, all of them are ethnically Indonesian, consistently weaving their culture into their music and choreography. Many Indonesian fans have also praised the group for “representing the real beauty of Indonesian girls” with their tan and brown complexions, which is acknowledged in one of Baila’s lines in “work” (“Island with the skin tone“).
“work” is out on all streaming platforms. You can follow no na on Instagram here.
