Even flight issues could not stop Alec Benjamin from getting fans and casual listeners from performing a beautiful set on the last day of 2024’s BST Hyde Park. The star from Phoenix, Arizona has spent his summer on the road after releasing his newest album 12 Notes, hitting up Poland, Spain and Portugal, as well as the UK.

Whilst he naturally played one of his biggest hits “Let Me Down Slowly’, he also treated fans to a bevy of songs from across his discography, such as “I Sent My Therapist To Therapy”, “Water Fountain” and “Jesus In LA”. Listeners of all ages could be seen singing along and enjoying the set throughout the park, and his gentle quips throughout helped foster a gentle and confessional atmosphere that enhanced the storytelling nature that is a hallmark of Benjamin’s work.

Since Narrated For You in 2018, Benjamin has quietly built up a reputation for being an artist beloved by other artists, as well as steadily growing his huge following not just amongst Western audiences, but especially in Asia. Fans will be more than familiar with his work also in Mandarin Chinese, as he has been part of that new crop of young artists redefining that it means to be a global artist with a following worldwide.

His set was the definition of ‘short but sweet’, with the 45 minute set seeming to whip by in a moment. Whilst Alec Benjamin will be seen in many other countries worldwide this year – hitting up Hong Kong and Taipei before the end of the month before returning to North American later this year – his time at BST Hyde Park was a clear demonstration of just how popular he his this side of the pond.
