P-Pop Group pix!e Discuss Their Enchanting Comeback

On 5th June, P-Pop girl group pix!e released their first comeback track, “Float.” The members Mita, Nicole, Hana, Kath, and Pearl know you’ve been waiting for this since their debut in October 2024. This past year and seven months, they’ve been waiting too.

Songwriting sweethearts Hazel Faith Dela Cruz-Santos and Caleb B. Santos crafted the lyrics and production on “Float.” Popular actor-singer Wilbert Ross is also credited as the track’s arrangement and mixing consultant.

The song adds new colours to the dreamy sonic palette that their launch song “Iced Coffee” established. pix!e’s leader, Mita, sat down with &ASIAN for a quick chat about their return. “‘Float’ has a very different feel from our debut single,” she shares.

“Iced Coffee” was an exuberant bubblegum pop song comparing one’s crush to the titular beverage. Meanwhile, “Float” is about “finding hope when you don’t know exactly saan ka dadalhin ng buhay (where life will take you),” she says.

It features lush synths, subtle UK garage beats, and emotional vocal performances by the girls. The music video, released on 12th June, matches the song’s thoughtful tone.

Instead of the typical MV with singing and dancing scenes, it unfolds like a short film about friendship. Director Junnel Oreta fully concentrates on the narrative as the girls bond over school and swimming, reflecting the sea-themed lyrics.

Hana.

Actually, we were frustrated in ourselves,” Mita says of their unusually long hiatus, especially because their fans wanted to know what was going on behind the scenes; information they simply could not disclose to the public yet.

For one, they weren’t able to announce until 11th June that their music distributor is now Sound Manila, a subsidiary of FlipMusic, and that they’re no longer with Viva Records. (However, they remain with Dream Cloud Media, whose creative director is Viva star Krissha Viaje.)

The pix!e girls are choosing to look back at their hiatus as a chance for them to blossom as artists and people. “We were always looking for the perfect time. Nung mga panahon na naghihintay yung fans (In that period when fans were waiting for us), we got to improve ourselves,” Mita says.

For example, on 7th May, main vocalist Pearl uploaded her self-written solo ballad titled “Kinabukasan” (Future) to the group’s official YouTube channel. Members Nicole and Hana also contributed to the “Float” MV’s storyboard writing and costume design.

If you’re excited now, you won’t be disappointed for what the rest of 2026 has in store for pix!e. “New songs will definitely be out very, very soon,” Mita teases. “Madami kaming nagawa na excited kami maipakita sa inyong lahat. (We’ve done so many things that we can’t wait to show all of you.)

Just a few days ago, pix!e won “New Female Group Artist of the Year” at the prestigious PMPC Star Awards for Music. As they sing in “Float,” these girls are ready to rise above their challenges and face the world that’s eager to welcome their magic again.

“Float” is out now on all digital streaming platforms. You can find pix!e on Instagram here.
